I’ve been unable to update the blog for a day or two. I attempted a WordPress upgrade and the whole thing went haywire, way beyond anything I could do. I did what any sensible person would do and got the expert in. Why struggle trying to fix something when you don’t know where to start, you can end up making things worse. I’ve learned my lesson in that department. If there’s an update available you don’t have to activate it. Step away from the button!
It’s the same with writing. You can struggle along, knowing something’s not quite right but at a loss as to how to correct it. You don’t necessarily need an expert, sometimes you need someone that’s more experienced than you are. There are plenty of great tutors available both in workshops and online tutorials. I’m at Sherborne Literary Festival 16th to 20th October along with Lorna V and Diana Cambridge, all of running workshops or providing advice for writers. Diana Cambridge who writes regularly for Writing Magazine is on hand over the five days as Writer in Residence so if you have something you need an expert eye for she’s your woman.
If you can’t get to classes, workshops or festivals than why not look for local a writer’s group. You should be able to do a quick search on the internet or failing that try asking at your library. You could also check out National Association of Writers’ Groups website who list hundreds of groups all around the country.
